Major League Roller Hockey will extend its footprint to the west coast for the 2010-11 season and has named Itan Chavira and Justin Collins as West Coast Coordinators.
To date, five California teams have committed to play as part of an MLRH West Division.
Chavira, considered one of the world's elite players has played in both the MLRH pro league and it;s "made for TV' Co-ed Slamm Hockey league. Chavira's OT goal led the Quebec Mistral to the 2009 Slamm Championships. While playing for the LA Parma Cyclones, Chavira has won a Championship in every major tournament series.
Justin Collins is the founder of the Nakhon Dragons franchise and will bring the Dragons to MLRH. As a player, Collins was named two-time defenseman of the year and,as a coach, led the Nakhon women's team to the AAU National finals.
When not playing hockey, Collins is a firefighter with a degree in Fire Protection Administration from Cal State LA. He is also passionate about art and graphic design and has created his own line of apparel. "I had to take some time off to get my degree," said Collins "but I'm back in hockey and committed to expanding and building a great MLRH Division out here. Itan and I have a plan and we are committed to MLRH. Part of that plan is the debut of a CO-ED Slamm Hockey event in Southern California with a projected date of September 25. 'I have not yet had the opportunity to play Slamm but Itan has and he is on a mission to convert the world to Slamm Hockey." Collins added with a laugh.
