MLRH GOES COAST-TO-COAST WITH $20,000 Summer SERIES Five National events to include Pro Tour, CO-ED Slamm Hockey plus amateur events
Alexandria, VA-- Major League Roller Hockey (MLRH) has announced their expanded Summer 2010 Pro Tour and the return of it's highly successful Slamm Hockey full contact CO-ED league.
The winning Pro team will receive $10,000 with the runner-up team receiving a $5,000 award. The Slamm Hockey winner will take home $5,000.
Built on the success of it's highly competitive MLRH2, AAA and AA leagues, MLRH will offer four Pro Festival events leading to a National Championship weekend tentativly scheduled for August 22nd & 23rd.
At this time, the Buffalo Wings, the 2009 MLRH Champions are set to return and defend their title.
East Coast, West Coast and Midwest...pick your qualifying event New to the MLRH Pro format is the addition of a West Coast qualifying event, designed to accommodate tournament teams without a suitable home facility for a traditional MLRH schedule. Each pro team will be required to play "one" Festival on either the east coast, midwest or west coast which will seed them for the finals . Each team will play four games and their standings will determine their seeding and playoffs status. As each events standings are kept, the top two teams in the Pro division will be given "byes" to the semi -finals, based on points and tiebreakers, while the other teams battle it out at the finals. After eliminatng teams in the quarter finals, those left standing will meet the best performers of the 2010 Festivals.
"These cross-country matchups should create a real buzz." enthused Bill Raue, MLRH President. "This series will have the best of the best meeting all across America.
$10,000 Championship prize, $5,000 Finalist prize PRO division, $5,000 prize Slamm Hockey division
August 20th, 21st - 22nd, TBA, MLRH PRO TOUR FINALS, SLAMM HOCKEY FINALS, AAA and AA FINALS
The return of Slamm Hockey (and Slamm Hockey Lite) Slamm Hockey is back and this time they are playing for cash. League officials believe this is the first time in roller hockey history that any prize money has been awarded for a CO-ED event. Slamm Hockey is played with alternating lines of men vs. men and women vs, women in full contact action. Adding to the fun is that, in games carried on broadband TV, there are announcers on the players bench with each team discussing the action. It is not uncommon to hear the women dissing the men on their shift and vice versa.
Bill Raue, Slamm Hockey creator calls it "90% pure hockey and 10% soap opera." Slamm Hockey events will be a part of all of the Pro Tour stops. In it's debut season, MLRH operated the various Slamm teams but this time around, it is a wide open competition open to any group that elects to form a team. For teams that enjoy the Slamm Hockey format but not the "Slamm" part, MLRH will also offer non-check Slamm Lite
The Quebec Mistral with Itan Chavira and Jenna Donnelly are the defending Slamm Hockey champions. The Mistral edged the New York Flash in OT to take the title in Buffalo.
AAA, AA and CO-ED non-check events included at each Event The summer festivals will include non-check tournaments with qualifiers advancing to the national championships the last weekend in August. While MLRH has long been identified with full-contact hockey, the addition of non-check leagues has opened the doors to many players who have used the AAA league as a vehicle to be seen by pro teams. The AA league has opened the MLRH door to many younger player who enjoy playing along side the pro events. There will be no prize money in these divisions but teams will enjoy the prestige of a MLRH National Championship.

Detroit Remains Unbeaten! - posted on Jan. 21st, 2010
January 17, 2010 began as a normal Sunday, but would end as the day a huge rivalry was born in the MLRH North division. The division leading Detroit Revolution (7-0) and the newly formed Chicago Roller Snakes would battle it out in all divisions. The Detroit Revolution is recognized as a team without star power, but with consistent talent and depth throughout their entire organization. This overall balance had lead them to begin the season 5-0 with victories over the Washington DC Filibusters (1), the Michigan Thunder (2) and the Florida Fusion (2) before the weekend festival in Grand Rapids began. The Chicago RollerSnakes are lead by Pat Lee of Mission Syndicate, Pete Messina of the Tour Mudcats and Vince Free of the USA Clinics Pro team.Unfortunately for the RollerSnakes all three of those players were at Narch Winter Nationals in San Jose, California. This first meeting of the "D Rev" team vs the "Snakes" of Chicago would prove to be the game of the season so far in the MLRH2 full contact division....... READ FULL STORY, CLICK HERE |

Buccaneers Thump Virginia Wings in Front of Record Crowd! - posted on Jan. 16th, 2010
You know it was going to be a busy night when two buses of boy scouts pulled up to the Pavilion at 7:45pm to an already full and standing room only Pavilion sports Complex. As fans arrived early for the fan appreciation night, the first in "marketing" ideas by Bill Raue to introduce all different people to inline hockey, it appeared this evening his efforts were a complete success. As fans continued to walk into the door before the festivities began, there was nothing but standing space behind the arena goal nets to accommodate them and a reminder of the glorious Montreal Forum days when fans congregated by the thousands to watch their heroes play and had to stand as there wasn't a seat in the Forum to accommodate them.
Tonight, these fans got to witness the SC Buccaneers and the Virginia Wings meet for the first time of the season. As the opening puck dropped, The Bucc's would pepper the Wings goaltender for a team high 54 shots on their way to a 20 - 4 victory. The Bucc's Lee Cannon was pulled early in the fourth quarter for back up Miles Wilson to finish the game. Wilson allowed 3 goals on 8 shots in the fourth quarter.
Paul Bailey, finished with a personal best of five goals and four assists, while Dave Werner finished with four goals and three assists and Darcy Anderson tallied three goals and three assists. Morgan Miskell of the Wings answered with two goals.
The Bucc's return to play February 19th @ 7:00pm in a battle for first place as they take on their rivals, the Florida Fusion. They return to action the next day to meet the Pittsburgh Blackout in a series of home and home games @ 12:00pm and 7:00pm respectively, tickets are now on sale for all those games at a special price of $5 |

The Pro Race At A Glance....
- posted on Jan.8th, 2010
For most teams, the early games are out of the way and now is the time of year when the championship race gets serious. In the MLRH South, the South Carolina Buccaneers got a break in the way of some help from the Detroit Revolution who swept the Florida Fusion. At the moment the Fusion are 3-2 and the Buccaneers are hot on their heels at 2-2. Add the Virginia Wings, who have yet to play a game and the Pennsylvania Blackout who have player (and won) their only game and it looks like there is going to be a great three months of hockey in store for MLRH fans in the South (OK, so Pennsylvania ain't exactly "south" but they are in the division).
In the MLRH North, things will get a lot clearer after the January 16 and 17 Festival in Grand Rapids featuring the Michigan Thunder, Detroit Revolution, DC Filibusters and the Chicago RollerSnakes.
At the moment, Detroit is leading the pack with a 5-0 record but the highly regarded Chicago team has yet to play a game. The DC Filibusters have been competitive.but need to post a big win soon to make believers out of the rest of the league. Meanwhile, in Grand Rapids, the winless Michigan Thunder need to get a couple wins or it will be a long year in Grand Rapids.
Stay tuned fans... |

Rollersnakes Have Big Plans In Chicago!
- posted on Jan.7th, 2010
Not since the days of Jake and Elwood Blues has Chicago had a duo set to bring the Windy City this kind of excitement. Pat Lee, currently lighting up the the AAHL (All American Hockey league) with the Chicago Blaze has signed to skate with owner Steve McHugh's Chicago RollerSnakes. To date, Lee has tallied 11 goals in 11 games on the ice for the Blaze and is certain to add firepower to the Snakes lineup when he laces up the wheels.
Lee has promised to bring more talent with him to the land of Lincoln and bring an MLRH title to a city that has not won a championship in any sport lately. In addition to skating for the Pro RollerSnakes, Lee will coach the AAA and AA non--check teams. "We plan to make the Snake organization the premier program in the area, from the pro team to entry level AA team for promising younger players. Owner and GM, Steve McHugh looks forward to the Snakes season debut on the road in Grand Rapids,MI on January 17 and 18. The Snakes will hook up with the Michigan Thunder, Detroit Revolution and the DC Filibusters in a 4-team MLRH Festival format. In addition to the full-contact pro games, the teams will also field AAA and entry level AA teams for the competition.
McHugh, who owns the Hockey Hut on-line and retail pro shops has taken on the task of building a highly competitive program in Chicago. "We are making a serious commitment to MLRH and a winning program in Chicago , top to bottom said McHugh. "We want to win at the professional level but we are equally committed to winning at the AAA and AA level. These teams are the future of our program and, with Pat Lee behind the bench, it is a great opportunity for players to learn the game from a guy who has played at a very high level, including representing the USA in World Championship events.
"Lee is a prefect fit for the Snakes. His leadership, desire to win and his work ethic are the embodiment of a successful and winning franchise." McHugh commented. "With the addition of Pete Messina, and other great players who we are bringing into our program, we plan to have not only a competitive team but a dominant team.
After the opening weekend in Grand rapids, we look forward to putting on a show February 27 and 28 when we host a festival event at Hat Trick Hockey. Fans will see the MLRH North teams including the Michigan Thunder, DC Filibusters, and Detroit Revolution at the opening event.

Saturday Night Crazyness
Mambo, LA and Motor City all finish the night 1-1.
Slamm Hockey's opening night at the Gardens Arena was a wild night with upsets, some big hits and a huge night from Stephanie Metcalf who tallied four goals to power the Motor City Hot Wheels to a 7-2 win over the Miami Mambo.
Metcalf''s record breaking performance could not have come at a better time as, earlier in the evening, they lost a 4-3 thriller to the La Cru. The Cru got on the board early on a goal from Emily Hall and each time the Wheels evened the score, Itan Chaviria found a way to put LA back on top with the game ending at 4-3.
Later in the evening, the Miami Mambo posted a 5-4 win over the Cru in another thrlller and then, when the Mambo were feeling pretty good abut themselves, Ms. Metcalf put a big hurt on the Mambo. For the record, it was the first hat trick by a woman in Slamm Hockey, much less a 4-goal game.
Metcalf, a former collage ice hockey star at Colorado, has made a very nice transition to playing on wheels. In 2004, she was named the best woman in women's ice hockey and selected as a first team all-star.
